Sue's Vision
Building a Stronger Community Together
As a long-time Ward 2 resident, Sue shares the same everyday frustrations and priorities as her neighbours across our community. She has spent years advocating on many of these key issues as a community member—and as Ward 2 Councillor, bringing these priorities to life at City Hall will be her full-time focus.
Fiscal Accountability and Regional Fairness
Sue believes in fiscal discipline, transparent governance, and independent oversight at City Hall to ensure tax dollars are spent effectively. The following measures would slow the relentless pace of tax increases we’ve seen over the past five years.
- Fair Cost-Sharing: Demand a rebalanced, equitable cost-split model between Mississauga and Brampton from 62/38 to 50/50.
- Independent Budget Oversight: Appoint a strong Independent Auditor General to eliminate wasteful municipal spending; identify efficiencies; and find better, lower-cost ways to improve city operations.
- Staff Attrition & Modernization: Freeze non-essential replacements for retiring personnel until municipal tax rates stabilize or decrease. Shift operational focus toward automation, AI-assisted workflows, and modern service delivery methodologies to maintain efficiency.
- Closing the Provincial Funding Gap: Demand Queen’s Park fix the $868 million annual funding gap that shortchanges Peel Regional services.
- Emulate Leading Municipal Models: Actively research and adapt successful global best practices in urban management, fiscal discipline, and civic technology—ensuring local tax dollars are spent as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Community Safety
Doorstep conversations across Ward 2 reveal a consistent priority: residents are deeply concerned about neighbourhood safety, traffic violence, and rising local crime. From reckless speeding on residential streets to property theft and under-resourced emergency services, these safety challenges directly impact our quality of life and peace of mind. Sue believes community safety is a fundamental duty of local government, and she is committed to delivering immediate, practical measures to protect our neighbourhoods:
- Neighbourhood Safety & Quality of Life: Support active community safety initiatives, mitigate local noise and air pollution, and keep our parks and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming.
- Safer Residential Streets: Curb neighbourhood speeding and rat-running through targeted traffic calming measures, enhanced speed enforcement, and safer pedestrian crossings.
- Greater Police Presence: Advocate for a dedicated police station south of the QEW. A visible physical presence and increased local patrols serve as a proven deterrent to crime, ensuring faster response times and stronger community connections.
- Justice System Investment: Push for increased Provincial and Federal funding to resolve critical shortages of judges and court resources, ensuring timely justice and accountability.
Traffic and Congestion
Let’s get Mississauga moving. Sue will prioritize smart, high-impact transit investments that directly target gridlock, ensuring Ward 2 residents can reliably and efficiently travel across our city.
- City-Wide Traffic Studies: Execute comprehensive, city-wide traffic impact studies rather than analyzing isolated intersections. Mapping real movement patterns and bottlenecks across Mississauga will ensure infrastructure dollars are directed where they matter most.
- Transparent Master Plan: Develop a long-term, publicly accessible municipal transportation plan driven by traffic experts, population growth models, and direct community consultation—with a clear focus on securing the necessary funding to deliver results.
- Targeted Bottleneck Relief: Eliminate local gridlock points and optimize traffic signal synchronization along key Ward 2 corridors to smooth daily commutes.
- Rapid Transit Expansion: Advance Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) along Lakeshore Road and Dundas Street to move commuters efficiently while relieving neighbourhood street congestion.
- Lakeshore Corridor Flow: No parking on Lakeshore Rd by Jack Darling Park.
Climate Resilience, Environmental Stewardship and Public Health
As a dedicated Rattray Marsh steward and local environmental advocate, Sue brings proven experience to protecting Ward 2’s natural canopy, shoreline, and public health. Because Ward 2 sits within a stressed airshed, Sue believes protecting our natural assets is vital for community health, flood defense, and long-term quality of life.
- Waterfront & Parkland Preservation: Safeguard the Lake Ontario shoreline and ecologically sensitive wetlands like Rattray Marsh. Expand Ward 2’s urban tree canopy to mitigate the urban heat island effect, improve local air quality, and provide natural cooling for our neighbourhoods.
- Groundwater Protection & Stormwater Management: Map Mississauga’s local groundwater resources to evaluate climate impacts, and invest in resilient stormwater infrastructure to protect homes, roads, and basements from extreme flooding events.
- Neighbourhood Air Quality & Zoning: Oppose inappropriate industrial expansion adjacent to residential areas and advocate for strict environmental monitoring to protect public health and air quality.
Smart Growth & Neighbourhood Character
Ward 2 is facing unprecedented development proposals—from high-density towers in Clarkson to major infill projects along Lakeshore—that will shape our community for decades. Sue stands for sensible, community-informed planning that respects neighbourhood character, protects existing zoning, and ensures our infrastructure keeps pace with growth.
- Infrastructure-First Development: Ensure local roads, transit, schools, stormwater systems, and parklands are fully equipped to support increased population before high-density developments are approved.
- Defending Official Plans & Zoning: Respect Mississauga’s Official Plan and local zoning bylaws to protect neighbourhood character against speculative over-development and inappropriate height increases.
- Real, Income-Based Affordability: Push for housing affordability metrics tied directly to Mississauga’s Area Median Income (AMI), ensuring “affordable housing” actually serves local families, seniors, and workforce residents rather than developer market averages.
- Climate-Resilient & Sustainable Building Standards: Advocate for updated building codes that mandate climate-adapted construction and indoor health protections — including passive radon venting systems in all new builds, energy-efficient heating and cooling (heat pumps, geothermal), mould- and flood-resistant materials, soundproofing, and aging-in-place design—so new homes are safe, sustainable, durable, and lower-cost to operate over time.
- Rethinking High-Density “Growth Nodes”: While intensification nodes look efficient on paper, clustering dense glass-and-concrete towers without adequate green infrastructure creates severe urban heat islands. We must re-evaluate these plans to mandate green roofs, cooling tree canopies, high-albedo reflective surfaces, permeable paving, and natural airflow corridors—preventing localized heat traps that overtax our power grid and drive-up cooling costs for residents.
Accountable Municipal Services & Infrastructure Delivery
Growth must be matched by real investments in day-to-day community infrastructure. Sue advocates for improved public amenities; well-maintained parks and roads; and a more responsive 311 system that delivers fast, accountable municipal services for Ward 2 residents.
- Transparent 311 Tracking & SLA Accountability: Upgrade Mississauga’s 311 portal into a fully transparent, searchable ward dashboard. Ward 2 residents should not face a “black hole” after reporting a pothole, streetlight outage, or damaged sign; the city must publish clear Service Level Agreements (SLAs)—such as guaranteed 24- to 48-hour response windows for high-priority road hazards—and provide real-time updates from initial report to final resolution.
- Proactive Asset Management & Preventive Care: Shift municipal maintenance from a reactive, resident-driven model to a proactive one. By leveraging modern road-scanning sensors on city service vehicles, Mississauga can detect asphalt degradation, non-functioning lighting, and obscured signage early—addressing infrastructure failures before they become costly hazards or burden residents with logging tickets.
- Durable Resurfacing over Band-Aid Fixes: End the cycle of endless temporary cold-patch repairs that wash out during winter freeze-thaw cycles. Sue advocates for higher-durability paving specifications, continuous groundwater management beneath roadbeds, and accelerated resurfacing schedules for high-wear Ward 2 corridors—saving tax dollars and delivering long-lasting road quality.
Vibrant Community: Investing in Youth, Seniors & Families
When individuals thrive, the whole community thrives. Sue believes municipal leaders have a fundamental responsibility to foster conditions where every resident can flourish physically, mentally, and socially. Investments in healthy, connected residents build greater life satisfaction, strengthen social cohesion, and yield significant long-term savings across public service and healthcare systems.
- Recreational & Public Facilities: Expand access to Ward 2 community centres, libraries, and family-friendly park amenities. Prioritize the establishment of a dedicated Youth Hub—a safe, inclusive space where children and young people can gather, socialize, access educational programming, and participate in active recreation.
- Support for Seniors & Aging in Place: Expand dedicated programming, active living spaces, and accessible municipal facilities for older adults. Advocate for age-friendly infrastructure—such as winter-maintained mobility corridors and accessible community hubs—and support strong intergovernmental partnerships to enhance community-based primary care and home-support services, allowing seniors to live safely and independently in their own homes, while reducing costly hospital admissions and maintaining their social connections.
- Mental Health & Community Well-Being: Maximize the role of local parks, green spaces, and community hubs in supporting mental wellness and reducing social isolation across all generations. Support neighbourhood programming that brings youth, families, and seniors together through active living, cultural events, and accessible shared spaces.
Transparency and Accountability
“Residents deserve to know how decisions are made, why they are made, and who is accountable. We need to be part of the decision-making process.”
